Let's Rock the House! Spring Fling Benefit for Gilly's House, an Addiction Recovery Home for Young Men

Souvenir Images has chosen to support the Spring Fling Benefit for Gilly’s House on March 2, 2019 with photography of this music-filled event at Plainridge Park Casino. We encourage you to learn about Gilly’s House and to support this program in any way you can. For more information on the March 2nd event, see https://gillyshouse.ticketspice.com/lets-rock-the-house-spring-fling-benefit-for-gillys-house-inc.

Gilly's House was established in memory of Steven Gillmeister, who passed away from a heroin overdose on October 24, 2016 at the age of 25.  Barbara Gillmeister and her husband David turned the grief of losing their son (Steven “Gilly” Gillmeister) into a living legacy honoring his life. Gilly’s House is a safe, supportive and structured environment for those young men who want to change their lives and be able to successfully join life back in the community.

We grieve for those who have lost their family members and loved ones to addiction, and we know that help for those in need is scarce and the medical system and caregivers are overtaxed by the magnitude of the crisis.

We will photograph this fundraiser in the memory of a groom, David Briggs, whose wedding with Anya Briggs we photographed several years ago. David was a veteran, loving husband, and dedicated father of two beautiful girls when he lost his battle with addiction. Here is a phtoograph from David and Anya’s wedding day.

Behind the Scenes: Millis in a Day Project

June 29 was a 90–100-degree day, so Walter and I started out dressed lightly and hauling plenty of Vitamin Water in the cooler. As we moved from location to location, the heat kept coming, but we forged on, determined to complete our day-long photo marathon! As you can see below, the project was truly a joint venture.

Millis in a Day Gallery Show Opening, September 11, 7–9 pm

On June 29, 2018, Audrey Anderson conducted a photo marathon, taking photographs from sunrise to sunset to express the experience of living in Millis, Massachusetts and shine a light on the diversity within the small town’s borders. Residents contributed to the project on the Millis Public Forum on Facebook by suggesting places and people to photograph. The project was supported in part by a grant from the Millis Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

The opening of the Millis in a Day exhibit will be on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from 7 to 9 pm at the Millis Public Library 961 Main St., Millis, Massachusetts, in the Roche Bros. Community Room. It will include 15 16x20 prints taken on June 29 and a slide show of many other photographs taken on June 29 and some taken on other days. All photographs to be displayed were taken in Millis, Massachusetts.

A feature article by Gatehouse News reporter Heather McCarron was published in the Milford Daily News and the Country Gazette, as well as posted on Wicked Local: http://millis.wickedlocal.com/news/20180628/local-photographer-planning-millis-in-day-project-friday. A follow-up to that article featured a preview of some of the photographs taken on June 29, 2018: http://bellingham.wickedlocal.com/news/20180803/your-best-shot-gallery-collection-by-audrey-anderson-of-millis
